I was just beginning my watch-collecting journey, and I decided that I "needed" a nice casual stainless steel dress watch. Something that would hold up to everyday wear to work, but that would also dress up nicely for more formal occasions. After some thought, I also decided that I wanted it to have a complication of some sort. But one that didn't make the watch too fussy - no repeaters, tourbillons, perpetuals, or chronoraphs.
My decision here was pretty easy - there aren't many watches fitting this bill in stainless steel. I had been reading up on the Jaeger Master Control series in their wonderful hardbound catalog, and was already looking favourably upon their products. I also came across Aran's nice review of the watch here on the TimeZone Archives, which helped firm up my thinking. The Reserve de Marche sure looked like it met my requirements. Simple, elegant-looking, not flashy, robust, and not too expensive.
I quickly found one, at a good price, from a local dealer, and lived happily ever after. If only its relatives didn't keep showing up at my house unannounced...
Extremely so. This is one of the most accurate mechanical watches I own. It is very versatile, being suitable for dressy or casual wear. I have several straps for it now so that I can tailor its appearance to the occasion. The quiet, understated elegance of this watch never ceases to please me. It is very comfortable to wear. It has functioned flawlessly since I got it. A keeper.
Absolutely. I originally purchased this in stainless steel, for robustness, but now that I have a larger selection of stainless watches in my collection for everyday wear, I'd strongly consider getting the RDM in rose gold this time, as I think it is the snazziest-looking version.
